When attempting to process a benefit distribution, we periodically encounter a situation where the participant
is lost or non-responsive. In order to protect their benefit, an Automatic Rollover IRA can be established with
PenChecks Trust if the benefit amount is under $5,000. If the benefit value exceeds $5,000, the account balance must
stay in the plan of origin. There are special exceptions:
In both cases, the account will be registered with the NRURB. Accounts in excess of $5,000 coming from a terminated
plan may be placed into a Missing Participant IRA and are also registered with the NRURB.
Or, when a participant has reached pay status under the plan then the account can be transferred.
